RV sales and travel have exploded since 2020, with many RV sales hitting record numbers. That means you are likely to find popular RV parks more crowded than usual. Some people love RV life because it gives them a chance to vacation away from the crowds to get a little more peace and quiet to connect with nature and unplug. If you are planning an RV trip that goes a little bit off the beaten path, take a look at our list of the best remote places to travel with your RV in the US.

Bear Lake Campground – Huerfano County, Colorado

Bear Lake Campground is located at 10,480ft elevation in the San Isabel National Forest in Colorado. Visitors can get a genuine Colorado experience surrounded by spruce and aspen forest with views of the nearby Culebra Range Mountains. You may even see a bear or two in the area, so enjoy them from a distance but be sure to keep your campground clean. A tributary of the Cuchara River runs through the campgrounds, and Bear Lake is approximately ⅛ mile from the campground. Blue Lake is about a mile away, and both are excellent for fishing! 

Dead Horse Point State Park – Moab, Utah

This desert landscape comes with a range of options for travelers from full RV hookups to primitive camping. Dead Horse Point State Park is 32 miles from Moab. Once you’re there, you can see miles into Canyonlands National Park from Dead Horse Point or 2,000 feet down to the Colorado River from this stunning mesa. Hiking along the cliffs of the nearby mesa offers incredible views of the surrounding canyons. There are 16.6 miles of pet-friendly hiking and biking paths to choose from in the Intrepid Trail System. All visitors, regardless of age or physical ability, will find something to enjoy on the trails, which provide stunning vistas and a variety of options. RV sites are $50 per night and include a paved driveway, 20/30/50 AMP electrical service, shade shelter, tent pad, fire ring, picnic table, and access to a dump station. The nearest potable water is in Moab, so you’ll want to fill up on the way into the park if you need to. 

Sunny Valley RV Park – Sunny Valley, Oregon

The Sunny Valley RV Park is halfway between Roseburn and Medford, Oregon, about 15 miles north of Grants Pass, OR. Nestled among mature shade trees, this relaxing environment is ideal for those who want to get to someplace quiet for a long weekend, or a whole week! The park has 24 30amp partial hookup sites with water and electric, two 30/50amp partial hookups with water and electric, and four 30/50amp full hookup sites with water, sewer, and electric. Most of the pull-through sites are able to accommodate RVs up to 45 feet long with room for an additional vehicle. Some sites even have extra space to set up a tent! Cell phone service here is very limited, but there is Wifi available throughout the park for email access and web searches.

Cub River Guest Ranch – Preston, Idaho

Located in Cub River Canyon in the southeastern corner of Idaho, Cub River Guest Ranch is 2 hours north of Salt Lake City and about an hour from Pocatello, Idaho. Breathe in the fresh mountain air with the bubbling of the Cub River nearby in this magnificent Idaho hideaway. It has 350 miles worth of horse trails, ATV trails, and snowmobile trails. They even have snowmobile rentals available! The site has 11 RV hookups with a large lawn area in the center and access to the trails in the Cache National Forest. 

Badlands National Park – South Dakota

While Badlands National Park might be a more recognizable name, you can still get plenty of isolation out there in South Dakota. There are 244,000 acres of land to spread out on with incredible views of canyons, buttes, pinnacles, and spires. The Cedar Pass Campground has some of its 96 sites designated for RV camping with electrical hookups. The Sage Creek Campground is a free campground that is first-come first-serve, though RVs greater than 18 feet long are not allowed. Campfires are also prohibited at this campground, but you can use a camp stove or a contained charcoal grill. 

Blue Heron RV Park at Klamath Ranch Resort – Hornbrook, California

The Blue Heron RV Park at Klamath Ranch Resort is open year-round in the great state of California, near the Oregon border. It is located on the beautiful Klamath River, where visitors can fish, float, or simply enjoy the sound of the rushing water. There is also horseback riding, snow skiing, and water skiing available nearby. Iron Gate Reservoir is also a short drive and has ample fishing. All sites have full hookups available, including 20/30/50 electric, sewer, and water. While this RV park is more off the beaten path than some, they do still have Wifi, paved streets in the park, as well as restrooms, a bathhouse, and a laundry facility. 

St. George Island State Park – Florida

For those looking for an RV destination that includes swimming, sunbathing, shelling, kayaking, and fishing, St. George Island State Park checks all the boxes. This small beach town is located in what many refer to as “Florida’s Forgotten Coast,” so you’re not likely to see too many people around. This state park is about 2,000 acres and offers 60 modern campsites with water and electricity as well as shower and toilet facilities. There are miles of undeveloped beaches that are home to nature trails, white sands, wading birds, saltwater fish, bald eagles, and sea turtles. Nature lovers, take note. 

Tok RV Village & Cabins – Tok, Alaska

If you’re really trying to have a faraway adventure, making the trek out to Tok RV Village & Cabins will give you just that! The campground has been around since 1986 and was built and is ran by the Jernigans, a longtime Alaska family. They pride themselves on running a very clean RV park. Tok is roughly a days drive from several major cities but is still located off of the Alaska Highway. Guests who stay here can enjoy fishing, hiking, and even panning for gold! The park is big-rig friendly and has over 100 pull-throughs, tent sites, and cabins available.
