Machine Operator
Manufactures parts through the use of various metal cutting, punching, and bending machines. Operator is responsible for learning all safety points (guards and pinch points), setup, and operation of assigned machine.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Start machine, monitor operations, and make adjustments as needed
- Stage raw materials at work-center for the day’s production
- Load materials to be shaped
- Download control programs into individual machines and perform test operations to guarantee the machine properly creates the precise part
- Calculate the amount of material to be fed into the machine, and make adjustments to the operating speed based on vibrations and sounds that may indicate a malfunction
- Perform operations effectively and efficiently
- Identify and communicate to Supervisor if a machine and/or quality issue arises
- Inspect the fabricated part to make sure that it matches specifications
- Clean and maintain equipment
- Monitor gauges, dials, and controls
- When problems arise, use troubleshooting abilities to determine what is going wrong and how to correct the problem
- Create new programs for newly developed products
- Monitor tool wear; adjust offsets and replace when necessary
- Ensure paperwork is complete in an accurate and timely manner
- Remove and replace dull cutting tools
- Listen carefully to machine during operations to determine if it is operating correctly
- When parts are finished, stop machine and remove finished work-pieces; change the set-up if needed for the next job
- Measure completed parts to ensure they conform to specifications
- Follow detailed instructions, processes, and procedures
- Comply with policies, guidelines, and regulatory requirements
- Report problems with quality, processes, equipment, and defective/questionable materials to Supervisor
- Provide hands-on job function training to co-workers and new associates as needed
- Conserve resources by using equipment and supplies needed to accomplish job results
- Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition to facilitate manufacturing functions, and follow safety regulations
- Complete tasks as directed with minimum supervision
- Perform other duties and assignments as requested
Required Skills
- Must be able to read and write (in English) and perform basic mathematical calculations
- Must demonstrate the ability to read a tape measure and have a basic understanding of fractions and decimals.
- Must possess the ability, or have the ability to learn how, to read a blueprint, micrometer, and calipers
- Must be willing to work additional hours as production demands increase
- Must have strong organizational skills and be self-motivated
- Must possess, or have the ability to develop, knowledge of products manufactured
Education/Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1-2 years of prior machining or fabrication experience
Physical Requirements
- Frequently involves heavy lifting, pulling (up to 80 pounds), bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing ladders, subject to dust, dirt, grease, and noise conditions
